Mosaic Mailbox

Now you can see that maybe I'm a bit too crafty? (is that possible?), I'm probably the only one out there with a mosaic tile mailbox!! It was easy, just spread down mastic on a new white mailbox, arrange tiles, grout with white grout, then spray with an outdoor protector... Another way to use my leftover tiles!!

  1. I love this mailbox! I want to make one too! Couple of questions: Is it a metal or plastic mailbox? What type of grout is it? Any other helpful hints you could offer would be most appreciated!
    Thanks!

  2. I started with a metal mailbox, used mastic to affix the tiles, then craft store grout, then sealed with a tile sealant spray.
    It was easy and fun!!!

  3. Thanks for the response! What is mastic? Can I get it at home depot? Is there a particular brand name? Does mastic stick to metal or did you have to buff the surface to improve adherence? Did you let the mastic dry before applying grout?
So many questions! I really like your finished results. Thanks for the inspiration and the info!

  4. I got the mastic at Lowe's, it's in the tiling section, this brand is Laticrete premium multi-mastic adhesive. I started with just a clean new mailbox, slathered on mastic and dug the tiles down into it (it's kinda like wet cement), let it all dry a day or two, then use mosaic grout (mine was from Michael's) to fill in cracks, let dry a couple days, then seal with tile sealant to waterproof...
Hope that helps, and I'd LOVE to see your results!!!!!

I have some photos, but I'm not sure how to post them, so if you'd like, I can email them to you.
Thanks for your help, suggestions and inspiration!
